Information on applications for the elections of minority self-governments

The National Election Commission (NEC) has set the date for the general election of minority self-government representatives for 9 June 2024. Voters who apply to be entered on the minority electoral roll by the deadline set by law, may participate in the minority self-government elections.

Budapest, March 2024 - The municipal, regional and  minority self-governments of the 13 Hungarian nationalities will be elected on 9 June 2024, at the same time as the election of local government representatives and mayors and the election of members of the European Parliament.

Voters who identify themselves as belonging to a nationality may apply to be entered in the minority electoral roll by 4 p.m. on 31 May 2024.  Anyone who is not on the minority electoral roll may not vote in the election of nationality representatives or stand as a candidate. Voters may also request to be removed from the nationality register by 4 p.m. on 31 May.

Applications for elections to the minority self-government may be submitted online at valasztas.hu-, or in person or by proxy at any local election office. Information on other election applications is available here.
