The meeting served as a beneficial opportunity for leaders of the two election institutions to share experiences on strengthening electoral mechanisms. The discussions included an overview of the general tasks and responsibilities of the National Election Office of Hungary, providing the Swedish delegation with insights regarding the parliamentary elections held next year. Both sides emphasized the importance of impartiality and transparency in electoral administration, highlighting mechanisms and practices that ensure public trust and the integrity of democratic processes.
The participants, furthermore, shared insights on election observation, as well as the importance of professional development programs for member of election bodies to strengthen institutional capacity. In addition, voter education and civic engagement were recognized as essential components for promoting awareness, participation, and confidence in democratic processes.
Following the discussions, the two heads of office participated in a conference at the National University of Public Service, focusing on electoral practices and international outlook. Anna Nyqvist presented the Swedish electoral system, while Attila Nagy Dr. delved into recounts and repeated elections as an integral part of establishing legitimacy of the democratic process.
