Information on the notification obligations of media service providers and press products
Information on the notification obligations of media service providers and press products in connection with the 2026 general parliamentary elections.
General information:
If a media service provider that does not qualify as a public service provider, provides nationally available linear media services and a media service provider that provides linear media services exclusively available on the internet (hereinafter collectively referred to as: Media Service Provider) wishes to publish political advertising during the campaign period preceding the 2026 parliamentary elections, it is required to notify the National Election Commission (NEC) of its intention no later than 4:00 p.m. on the 50th day preceding the election.
The Media Service Provider is entitled to publish political advertising on the basis of its notification pursuant to section 147/F of Act XXXVI of 2013 on Electoral Procedure (Ve.).
The notification must contain the following:
- the designation of the national linear media service or the linear media service available exclusively on the internet used for the publication of political advertising, and
- the duration of the publication of political advertisements, which in total may not be less than half of the duration required from the public service media provider, i.e. 235 minutes.
If a press product wishes to publish political advertisements during the campaign period preceding the 2026 parliamentary elections, it shall submit its advertising price list to the State Audit Office (SAO) by 4 p.m. on the 60th day preceding the election. The press product must also publish the price list sent to the SAO on its own website. The SAO publishes the press products authorized to publish political advertisements and their advertising price lists on its website under the Elections menu item (https://www.asz.hu/valasztasok), where other information related to the notification can also be found.
The deadline for notification is a term of preclusion in the case of both political advertising and political announcements, i.e. if the media content provider does not notify the NEC or the SAO by the deadline, it may not publish political advertising or political announcements during the campaign period.
