Recommendation verification information
Information on verification of recommendations
With regard to the 2026 general elections of Members of Parliament, a request for information may be submitted from the 50th day preceding election day.
Dear Inquirer,
We hereby inform you that if you wish to submit a request for information pursuant to Section 2 (4) of Act XXXVI of 2013 on Electoral Procedure (hereinafter: the Electoral Procedure Act), concerning individual constituency candidates and/or nationality lists whose list you appear as a recommender for the 2026 general election of Members of Parliament on, please proceed as outlined below.
Submission of requests for information
A request for information may be submitted to the following election bodies:
For submission in person or via an authorised delivery agent, the contact details of the election offices can be found here.
1. Submission of the request by electronic means
The request may be submitted via the personalised administration interface (magyarorszag.hu/szuf), within the Elections / Data Protection item, by using the information service entitled “Information on recommendations (Whom did I recommend?)”.
The National Election Office provides information as follows:
Completion of the request for information is possible after electronic identification.
Identification is carried out through connection to the KAÜ – Central Identification Agent service, using one of the following identification methods:
- Digital Citizenship Program mobile application
- Client Gate+ authenticator application
- Client Gate + email-based code
Following successful identification, the voter specifies on the form for which type(s) of election they request information on their inclusion on recommendation forms. Thereafter, with the voter’s consent, the request is automatically completed—using data retrieved from the personal data and address register—on the basis of the voter’s personal identification number or the document number of their identity document suitable for personal identification, and then forwarded to the National Election Office.
The National Election Office checks, within the National Election System (NVR), whether the identifier provided in the request appears in the data sets of recommendation forms submitted to election offices for verification in the relevant election, and verified by the election offices by 24:00 on the day preceding the submission of the request.
The verification is carried out online, and its result is displayed to the voter on the SZÜF interface, containing the following data:
- the personal identification number(s) for which the verification was carried out;
- the name of the election(s) for which recommendation verification data were checked;
- if the personal identification number(s) do not appear among the verified recommendations, notification of this fact;
- if the personal identification number(s) do appear among the verified recommendations:
- the serial number and unique identifier of the recommendation form,
- the type of the election,
- the name of the individual constituency candidate / the designation of the nationality list,
- the serial number of the recommendation on the recommendation form,
- the status of the recommendation: accepted or rejected (in the case of rejection, the reason for rejection).
A PDF document is generated on the basis of the verification result that may be downloaded.
2. Submission of the request via an authorised delivery agent or in person
The following data must be provided in the request:
- the applicant’s family name and given name (to be completed exactly as shown in the identity document),
- the applicant’s personal identification number (the 11-digit number shown on the address card).
If the request is submitted via an authorised delivery agent, the agent must verify his / her identity and — except for the case of authorisation recorded in the administrative mandate — their right of representation.
Pursuant to Section 2 (4) of the Electoral Procedure Act, election offices provide information, upon request by the person concerned, only on personal data of persons appearing on those recommendation forms which were submitted to the election office for verification and for which itemised verification under Section 125 (3) of the Electoral Procedure Act was completed by 24:00 on the day preceding the submission of the request.¹
We further inform you that, pursuant to Article 12(3) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council (General Data Protection Regulation, hereinafter: GDPR), concerning the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC, the data subject shall be provided with information in writing without undue delay and in any event within one month of the submission of a request exercising the right of access to their own personal data under Article 15.
A recommendation submitted for a candidate or list reflects a political opinion and therefore falls within a special category of personal data under Article 9 of the GDPR. For this reason, in order to prevent misuse of personal data — except for the case when the voter has storage space pursuant to Section 46 (5) of Act CIII of 2023 on the digital state and certain rules on the provision of digital services — the election office provides information on recommendations exclusively by mail, addressed to the voter’s address recorded in the central register of voters.
¹Sections 127 (2) and (3) of the Electoral Procedure Act provide that the election office shall refrain from verifying recommendations if the number of recommendations submitted on the recommendation forms does not reach the number required for candidacy. Itemised verification of recommendations need not be continued if it becomes certain that the number of valid recommendations has reached the number required for candidacy.
