The Jobbik - Movement for a Better Hungary submitted the signature gathering sheets for its referendum initiative to the National Election Office

The National Election Office has 60 days to verify the signatures in accordance with the relevant legislation. The Jobbik - Movement for a Better Hungary – according to its own statement – submitted 100,000 signatures to the National Election Office regarding the referendum question on declaring the 24th of December a public holiday. The National Assembly must call a referendum, if at least 200,000 valid signatures have been collected by the end of the verification process. If the number of valid signatures is more than 100,000 but less than 200,000, the National Assembly is not obliged to call a referendum, but may consider it. Following the verification process, the National Election Commission shall issue a decision on the results of the signature verification.
