The election IT system and portal were stable, operated smoothly even under heavy traffic: 3.1 million visitors from 182 countries around the world and 164 million page views in a single day.

Pursuant to its decision 28/2026 (IV. 13.), adopted on 13 April 2026, the Election Commission of the Zala County Single-Member Constituency no. 2 (Keszthely) ordered a recount of the votes cast on 12 April 2026 in the Keszthely single-member constituency.

The general parliamentary elections held on 12 April 2026 were successfully conducted. Voters were able to cast their votes between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the designated polling stations.

The 2026 general parliamentary elections reveal a number of noteworthy figures not only in terms of turnout, but also regarding the composition of voters and the characteristics of polling stations. More than 180,000 first-time voters may cast their ballots in this year’s election, while significant differences can be observed in the size and workload of polling stations.

According to the Act on electoral procedure, campaigning is permitted on election day; however, strict regulations apply regarding its location and format.

Due to the time difference, voting at foreign representations for the 2026 general parliamentary elections has already begun at several locations and has even concluded in some places. On the American continent, the first polling stations opened on Saturday, April 11, at 6 a.m. local time, 11 a.m. according to Central European Time. New Zealand and Australia followed the American continent.

The election bodies are prepared to conduct voting both domestically and at foreign representations, furthermore, postal voting is proceeding in accordance with legal requirements.

In the event of a close result, the outcome of the election may only become known as late as the Saturday following the vote, once 100% of the votes have been processed.

Voters with disabilities are provided with several forms of assistance by law to exercise their right to vote.

It is still possible to withdraw applications for absentee voting, voting at a foreign representation or inclusion in the registry of a national minority.

The National Election Office (NEO) has begun the verification of identification sheets for votes cast by mail on 6 April 2026, Easter Monday.

In one week, on Sunday, 12 April 2026, voters will decide on the composition of the National Assembly. Polling stations will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on election day.

On March 31, 2026, the presidents of the National Election Commission and the National Election Office received an 11-member delegation led by Pablo Hispan, the President of European People’s Party (EPP/CD) in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), and President of the Council for Democratic Elections of the Venice Commission.

Several deadlines are due on 2 April 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in connection with the 2026 general parliamentary elections. Voters have until this time to submit their applications for absentee voting, inclusion in the register of national minorities, and inclusion in the register of foreign representations, and to request a Braille ballot for the election.

From 28 March 2026, postal voting packages will be available for collection for voters eligible for postal voting. Voters who have not received their postal voting packages by mail may personally request a replacement from 5 April 2026 at any foreign representation or at any single-member constituency election office in Hungary.

In light of the situation in the Middle East, the National Election Office (NEO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), is closely monitoring developments in the region, with particular attention to the conditions for conducting voting at foreign representations and postal voting.

The legal remedy procedures have been completed, and as a result, the list of candidates has been finalized in all single-member constituencies.

In preparation for the 2026 general parliamentary elections, the National Election Office (NEO) – with the participation of all election offices - (NEO) holds nationwide IT and administrative tests aimed at verifying the operation of the election IT systems and the related procedures.

In preparation for the 2026 parliamentary elections, the National Election Office (NEO) has published informational booklets prepared for members of the polling station commissions, in addition to the already available training videos. The National Election Commission (NEC) approved the template of the national party list ballot paper to be used in the general parliamentary elections to be held on the 12th April.

On January 30, 2026, the Official Gazette of Hungary published NVI Directive no. 1/2026. (I. 30.) on determining the period available for in-person collection and submission of postal voting packages.
