Who needs to register?
Are you registered or automatically on the electoral roll? This depends mainly on the registration of your place of residence or domicile. See the table below to see whether you need to register to exercise your right to vote.
Whether a voter is registered or automatically entered in the electoral roll depends on his/her place of residence or domicile according to the Hungarian address register. The table below provides guidance on this question:
For example, if a voter has a foreign address registered as a place of residence (shown on the address card), they must register to vote even if they have a Hungarian residence (line 3) and even if they do not (line 4)
Registration is also required if the register shows that the voter has neither domicile nor residence in Hungary (line 6), or if the voter is not registered in the Hungarian address register (line 7).
No registration is necessary if he/she has a Hungarian residence (lines 1 and 2) or if he/she has neither a Hungarian nor a foreign address registered in the address register but has a valid Hungarian residence according to his/her address card (line 5). In these cases he/she will be automatically entered in the register, so there is nothing to do.
Anyone who is a registered voter and who continues to meet the eligibility conditions for inclusion in the central register does not need to reapply for inclusion in the central register for 10 years from the date of their inclusion in the register. The 10-year period starts again if he modifies or extends his registration or if he participates in the postal vote.
