Voter Register matters and notifications

Voters who do not have a Hungarian domicile must register in order to participate in the general election of members of the National Assembly scheduled for April 12, 2026, extend their registration, or modify their data in the central electoral register no later than 4 p.m. on March 18, 2026.

Voters with disabilities may request assistance no later than 4 p.m. on April 2, 2026.

Voters who are listed in the central electoral register by February 4, 2026, at the latest, will be notified by the National Election Office of their inclusion in the electoral register. The notification must be sent to the voter's address by February 20, 2026.

Applications for absentee voting may be submitted until 4 p.m. on April 2, 2026, at the latest. Absentee voters may modify their registration until 4 p.m. on April 2, 2026, or may withdraw their registration until 4 p.m. on April 9, 2026.

Applications for inclusion in the register of foreign representations must be received by 4 p.m. on April 2, 2026, at the latest. Voters registered in the register of the foreign representation may modify their data until 4 p.m. on April 2, 2026, at the latest. Voters registered in the register of the foreign representation may request their removal from the register by 4 p.m. on April 8, 2026, at the latest.

The National Election Office shall include in the register of postal voters those voters who do not have a Hungarian address and who are listed in the central electoral register on the basis of an application submitted by 4 p.m. on March 18, 2026, at the latest.

Mobile Ballot Box Requests

Voters may submit their request for a mobile ballot box:

  • to the National Election Office electronically with electronic identification by 4 p.m. on April 9, 2026, by electronic means without electronic identification by 4 p.m. on April 9, 2026,
  • to the local election office electronically with electronic identification after 4 p.m. on April 9, 2026, until 12 p.m. on April 12, 2026, by mail until 4 pm on April 9, 2026, in person or by authorized representative by 4 p.m. on April 9, 2026, or in person or by authorized representative by 4 p.m. on April 10, 2026,
  • to the competent polling station commission by a proxy or by a person without power of attorney by 12:00 on April 12, 2026, at the latest.

After recording any changes made by 4 p.m. on April 9, 2026, the National Election Office will close the central electoral register and the list of voters requesting mobile ballot boxes.

Postal voting, collection and return of voting packages

Voters who do not receive their postal voting package by April 5, 2026, may request a replacement package in person at any foreign representation or parliamentary single-member constituency election office.

Voters who do not have a Hungarian address and who requested to receive their voting documents in person by 4 p.m. on 18 March 2026 may collect their postal voting package from 28 March 2026 on working days at least between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., at the times set by the President of the National Election Office. The package may be collected at a designated foreign representation, or on 12 April 2026, during voting hours, at any parliamentary single-member constituency election office.

After voting, the return envelope may be sent by post to the National Election Office, provided it arrives by 7 p.m. on 12 April 2026. The envelope may also be delivered in person, or by another person without written authorization, from 28 March 2026 to any foreign representation during official voting periods, or on 12 April 2026 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. to any parliamentary single-member constituency election office. Return envelopes accepted within Hungary by 9 April 2026 must be delivered by postal service to the National Election Office by midnight on 11 April 2026.

The National Election Office may begin checking the identification statements of postal voters on April 6, 2026, at the earliest. The counting of votes cast by mail by voters who do not have a Hungarian address may not begin before 7 p.m. on April 12, 2026.

For nominating organizations, candidates

The National Election Office shall make available to the competent election office the part of the central electoral register of postal voters containing the names of those voters who requested personal delivery of their postal voting package, starting no later than March 27, 2026.

The organization wishing to nominate a candidate or put forward a list may be registered as a nominating organization with the National Election Commission no earlier than February 3, 2026.

The recommendation sheet may be requested by voters intending to run as independent candidates or by nominating organizations that have been legally registered from the election office operating under the parliamentary single-member constituency election commission responsible for registering candidates on February 3, 2026, at the earliest.

Single-member constituency candidates must be registered by 4 p.m. on March 6, 2026, at the latest.

The national list must be submitted by 4 p.m. on March 7, 2026, at the latest.

Voters who want to run as independent candidates and organizations that want to nominate candidates have to submit all the recommendation sheets they have been given to the parliamentary single-member constituency election office by 4 p.m. on March 6, 2026.

If a candidate on the individual ballot paper or a list withdraws after 29 March 2026 but before 12 April 2026, and the ballots have already been printed, the polling station commission must inform voters about it. Voters must be informed by a notice displayed in the polling station. The name of the withdrawn candidate or list must be crossed out on the ballot paper by the local election office before 12 April 2026, or by the polling station commission on 12 April 2026.

The candidate's withdrawal before 4 p.m. on April 9, 2026, is sufficient to have legal effect.

At the request of the country-level national self-government nominating organizations, the National Election Office will hand over the data of voters listed as national minority voters in the central electoral register, free of charge, on 5 March 2026 and 30 March 2026, except for voters who have prohibited the disclosure of their data. The data provided will include their name, address, age, and gender.

The parliamentary single-member constituency election commission shall draw lots to determine the order of the registered candidates, with the exception of those whose registration has been legally rejected, after 4 p.m. on March 6, 2026, or on March 7.

The National Election Commission shall draw lots to determine the order of the registered lists– with the exception of the list whose registration has been rejected with legal force – after 4 p.m. on March 7, 2026, or on March 8.

Campaign

The election campaign period runs from February 21, 2026, until 7:00 p.m. on April 12, 2026.

On April 12, 2026, campaign activities may not be conducted in the polling station or in the building housing the polling station, within 150 meters of the entrance to the building containing the polling station, in public areas, outside of designated areas, in a manner that could influence the voting intentions of voters present in these areas

No election meeting may be held on April 12, 2026.

Political advertising may not be published on April 12, 2026.

For the press

If the press wishes to publish a political advertisement, it shall submit its price list for advertising services to the State Audit Office by 4 p.m. on February 11, 2026, which shall register it and publish it on its website.

The press shall inform the State Audit Office of the published political advertisements by 4 p.m. on April 27, 2026.

Any media provider that offers a nationwide linear service, and any provider that offers a linear service available only online, must inform the National Election Commission by 4:00 p.m. on 21 February 2026 if it wants to make political advertising available. In the notice, it must specify which nationwide services will carry political ads.

Political advertising may not be published on April 12, 2026.

On April 12, 2026, the person conducting the opinion poll may not enter the building in which the polling station is located, may not harass voters in any way, and may only question those leaving the building. The results of opinion polls conducted in this manner (exit polls) may only be made public after 7:00 p.m. on April 12, 2026.

Observers

Observers at foreign representations and nominating organizations’ observers must be registered with the National Election Commission by 4 p.m. on April 2, 2026, at the latest.

International observers must be registered with the National Election Office by 4 p.m. on April 2, 2026, at the latest.

Voting at Polling Stations and Foreign Representations

Voting at a polling station in Hungary will be possible on April 12, 2026, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voting at a foreign representation will be possible on April 12, 2026, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time. At those foreign representations where the time difference is -1 or -2 hours compared to Central European Time, voting will be possible between 6 a.m. local time and 7 p.m. Central European Time. At foreign representations established on the American continent, voting will be possible on April 11, 2026, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time.

The foreign representation shall deliver the sealed ballot box containing the votes cast at the foreign representation and the envelopes returned to the foreign representation to the National Election Office by midnight on April 16, 2026.

Results

The parliamentary single-member constituency election commission shall establish the results of the single-member constituency vote on the basis of the polling station reports issued no later than April 18, 2026, or, in the event of a recount, no later than April 20, 2026.

In the event of a recounting, the results of the parliamentary elections in the single-member constituencies shall be determined by April 20, 2026, at the latest.

The regional election commission shall establish the regional results of the national list election on the basis of the polling station minutes issued on the results of the national list vote by April 18, 2026, at the latest.

The National Election Commission will establish the national list results of the parliamentary election no later than 4 May 2026.
