OSCE Experts Visit the National Election Office of Hungary

On 16 December 2025, experts of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) paid an official visit to the National Election Office of Hungary (NEO) in the framework of a needs assesment mission, where they held talks with Attila Nagy, Dr., President and subsequently with NEO experts. The meeting aimed at providing an overview of the preparations for the 2026 parliamentary elections, in order that the internationl organization could establish the framework for a possible international election observation mission.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the current legal and institutional framework of the Hungarian electoral system, as well as the tasks related to the conduct of elections. Particular attention was given to the presentation and assessment of amendments of the the Hungarian electoral practice related to previous OSCE recommendations. The discussion also covered recent legislative changes and their impact on electoral procedures.

The meeting provided an opportunity for professional dialogue, and the presentation of professional experience, and practices that enhance the transparency and lawfulness of elections. The cooperation of the National Election Office with the OSCE contributes to the continuous development of electoral procedures.
