More than 900.000 voters without a Hungarian domicile will receive notification from the National Election Office

The National Election Office (NEO) will send a letter to voters without a Hungarian address informing them about postal voting.

This week, the National Election Office starts notifying 904.000 voters without a Hungarian domicile, contacting them upon legal authorization. These voters, after successful registration, can cast their votes by mail in the parliamentary elections (exclusively on the national party list).

The National Election Office will send a letter to 441.000 registered voters reminding them to report any changes in their data since their last registration (e.g. if they have moved).

At the same time, the NEO will also contact those who have not yet registered (approximately 465.000 people). They will receive detailed information on how to register and how to vote by mail. The Office will send 187.000 of these notifications by e-mail.

Four years ago, prior to the last parliamentary elections, the NEO also sent letters to voters without a Hungarian domicile. Back then, the National Election Office sent more than 770.000 notifications.

Voters without a Hungarian domicile can participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections if their electoral registration application reaches the National Election Office by the twenty-fifth day before the election. It is important to note that successful registration is valid for ten years, and submitting a postal vote, updating personal data, or renewing registration extends its validity for an additional ten years. Although 17-year-old Hungarian citizens may request their registration, only citizens of legal age may cast their votes at the elections.

The number of voters registered for postal voting is public information that is updated daily and available at valasztas.hu website.

We wish to draw the voters’ attention that applications for registration can be submitted by post, online, in person or through a representative at any local election office or foreign representation election office. The officers are available via phone, e-mail or in person, as well.
